Real Food Low Carb Course

The Argyll Wellbeing Hub has funding from the Scottish Government to pilot a new type of support for people who are living with, or who are at risk of, a long-term health condition. It takes the form of a 10-week program, delivered by local health coach Moira Newiss, that is designed to help you change your diet so it is based on real food and as a result is low in carbohydrates.

A real food low carbohydrate diet helps you to reduce inflammation, improve blood sugar control and improve other markers of metabolic health such as weight and waist size as well as blood markers like HDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

In addition to losing weight other benefits include reduced pain, less brain fog, better gut health, a clearer and calmer mind, less mood swings, better sleep and an improved sense of wellbeing.

If you want to take back control of your health, improve your overall wellbeing and try to reduce or resolve your symptoms then this might be a good opportunity for you. Why not give it a go?

A 10 week Real Food Low Carb Course

If you meet our eligibility criteria and want to give it a go then this is what you sign up for:

A BEFORE mini health assessment including height, weight, blood pressure and a metabolic blood panel. Also including a couple of online health questionnaires to assess your current health status and mental wellbeing. The bloods will be fasted and done on a Wednesday between 8am and 11am.

An 8 week course run every Wednesday evening from 7pm to 8.30pm in the Argyll Wellbeing Hub on Breadalbane Street in Oban.

You will join a group of no more than 15 people who all want to improve their health. Your health coach will run the sessions which will be a mixture of education and discussion and include helping you set a health goal and take simple steps each week to change your behaviours to help you adopt a low carbohydrate lifestyle.

Each week there will be some real food low carb tasters to try to give you a bit of inspiration. Everyone will share their success and challenges as you go along so that there is peer support too.

An AFTER mini health assessment similar to the one at the beginning including the weight, blood pressure, bloods and questionnaires. This is both to help you assess your progress improving your health and also to help us collect data to support the grant continuing from the Scottish Government. Again this will be done on a Wednesday between 8am and 11am.
